Muyao Wu’s story is a compelling tapestry woven from threads of rigorous scientific inquiry, playful technological invention, and an insatiable curiosity about the world. His journey, beginning in the historic city of Xi'an, China, and traversing continents to the biotech hubs of California, has been characterized by a unique ability to bridge disparate worlds—be it the microscopic realm of microbial genomes or the dynamic landscape of mobile app development.
Born in Xi'an and moving to the United States at eight, Muyao developed a dual fascination for biology and computer science. This passion led him to UC San Diego, where he excelled in bioinformatics, contributing significantly to the Adaptive Laboratory Evolution (ALE) team by decoding microbial genomes and crafting innovative software tools.
Even as an undergraduate, his inventive spirit shone through with a mobile app to measure phone-throwing distance—an early exploration of sensor fusion. His curiosity extends beyond tech, as shown by a nearly year-long immersive journey through Japan.
Today, Muyao channels his expertise in complex systems and tool-building back into app development, focusing on sensor fusion. He applies the rigor of a bioinformatician to the creative challenges of software engineering, bringing a unique perspective to his projects.
Phruler is an advanced iOS application that uses augmented reality (AR) to function as a virtual ruler. It allows users to measure distances in 3D, horizontally, and vertically. The app features an engaging "Challenge Mode," customizable "Personality Packs," and detailed measurement history.
